Juventus midfielder Diego has picked his team for Matchday 6 of the UEFA Champions League Fantasy Football game. Read his comments and pick your team.
Our performance on Matchday 5 wasn’t bad at all, was it? My team managed to score 39 points and that certainly gives us a big lift ahead of a very interesting round on and off the pitch – especially for Juve, who are in a tight race against FC Bayern München for second place in Group A. I just hope the Dazzlers keep that momentum going so that we can climb even higher in the rankings.
In goal
Hans-Jörg Butt [FC Bayern München] had an amazing Matchday 5, bringing 6 points home and elevating his total this season to 32, more than twice the amount scored by Júlio César [FC Internazionale Milano]. He remains between the sticks and I just hope he can have an amazing game on Matchday 6 - as long as that doesn’t mean Bayern will edge Juve in the run for that second spot. I like the idea of continuing to play in the Champions League for real!
At the back
Michaël Ciani [FC Girondins de Bordeaux] proved a good gamble. He won six points for us on Matchday 5 and kept a firm grip on top spot in the defender rankings. I am really glad I drafted him in. Valeriu Bordeanu gets another chance, especially now that [FC Unirea] Urziceni can secure an amazing passage to the knockout stages with a draw at [VfB] Stuttgart. As Bruno Fernandes [Urziceni] scored no points, I have decided to bring Maicon [Internazionale] in and hope he will start living up to his potential. Daniel Alves [FC Barcelona], the third best defender in the overall rankings, completes my four-man defence. I was quite happy to see Barça play with so much authority against Internazionale.
Midfield maestros
Zvjezdan Misimović’s creativeness did not help [VfL] Wolfsburg against [PFC] CSKA Moskva, but he stays in my midfield, as I expect the German side to put on a tough display against a depleted Manchester United [FC]. I am keeping myself in, despite Juve’s capitulation against Bordeaux on Matchday 5 – it’s not bad to be the second highest scoring midfielder at the club. I have decided to trade in Arjen Robben [Bayern], who has only scored five points so far, for Bordeaux’s Wendel, on the back of his team’s stunning displays in the group stages. I’m also recalling Michael Ballack [Chelsea FC] to the first team to complete the formation.
Up front
It’s no accident that Luis Fabiano [Sevilla FC] is the most picked player in the fantasy league. I’m lucky I selected him – he’s still leading the striker charts, even though he only scored one point last round. Unfortunately, he’s injured for Matchday 6, so I’ve decided to play only two strikers. Amauri [Juventus], who at least avoided coming home empty-handed in our defeat against Bordeaux, will line up alongside Zlatan Ibrahimović. The Swede is Barça’s top striker in the fantasy league - he’s even ahead of Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.
Team for Matchday 6: Hans-Jörg Butt (FC Bayern München), Michaël Ciani (FC Girondins de Bordeaux), Maicon (FC Internazionale Milano), Daniel Alves (FC Barcelona), Valeriu Bordeanu (FC Unirea Urziceni), Zvjezdan Misimović (VfL Wolfsburg), Diego (Juventus), Michael Ballack (Chelsea FC), Wendel (FC Girondins de Bordeaux), Zlatan Ibrahimović (FC Barcelona), Amauri (Juventus).
